Empowerment

This section was an excellent way to end the book, each entry more powerful than the next. It truly shows why everyone in this class chose to study education- to help their students. Entry 146 really struck me. Mike had failed his portfolio, and decided that he should just give up, that he couldn't do it. But instead of just letting him fall through the cracks like so many others, his school came to his rescue, so to speak. He was encouraged to stay in school, and many of his peers showed empathy and shared their own experiences with him. In the end, Mike eventually came back and passed his Portfolio, and moved onto the next grade. To me, this entry is the epitome of the support system that students need. Students have doubts, insecurities, fears. Sometimes they just need to know that someone believes in them so that they can start to believe in themselves. This book was definitely inspiring and extremely insightful. It showed a true, honest look into being a teacher and what that means. It's hard. But it's worth it.
